Memory foam is luxuriously comfortable. A good electric blanket is luxuriously comfortable. But is it really a good idea to use both of them together? The answer isn’t as simple as yes or no, and there are a lot of different things to consider. A lot depends on the type of blanket you have, the make of mattress you’re using, and your own personal preferences when it comes to your own comfort. Keep reading and we’ll answer every question you might have!
Is It Safe to Use an Electric Blanket with Memory Foam?
This is the most important question, so we’ll deal with it first! It’s completely safe to use your electric blanket with either a memory foam mattress or a memory foam mattress cover. Most modern blankets have safety features such as an overheat protection system, so they’ll never get hot enough to risk your safety.
Will an Electric Blanket Damage Memory Foam?
This depends on your memory foam manufacturer, but the answer is almost always no. As we mentioned above, electric blankets simply don’t get hot enough to damage most kinds of memory foam. If you have an older mattress or mattress cover, though, it’s worth checking with the manufacturer just in case.
Using a Fitted Electric Blanket with a Memory Foam Mattress
It’s not always the best idea to use an electric blanket that fits on your mattress. This includes fully fitted electric blankets and heated mattress covers. This is because memory foam needs to be able to comfortably mould itself around your body as you lie on it, so putting a plush electric blanket between you and your mattress can affect that. As memory foam tends to be quite expensive, you’ll probably want to make sure you’re getting the most out of it.
If the comforting cosiness of an electric blanket is an acceptable trade-off for you, then there’s no reason to say you can’t use one – as we said above, there’s no safety risk to you and most modern memory foam products can handle it. Just be aware that the foam might not shape to fit your body the way you expect.
What Electric Blankets Can I Use on a Memory Foam Mattress?
We recommend using an electric overblanket or a heated throw on top of your duvet. Alternatively, you can seek out an underblanket that’s designed to fit underneath your duvet but on top of your body. As these blankets aren’t between your body and your mattress, they won’t interfere with the shaping of your memory foam, so you’ll get the cosiness of your electric blanket AND the comfort of your memory foam. It’s the best of both worlds!
Can I Use an Electric Blanket with a Memory Foam Pillow?
Yes! Your pillows sit on top of your electric blanket, so they won’t have any issues. It’s also worth remembering that most underblankets are designed without heating elements at the very top so as not to overheat your head while you sleep. This means that, even if your memory foam pillow is sensitive to heat, you can still use it with an electric blanket without worrying!
