With energy bills going up by a whopping 54% from April 1st, households across the whole of the UK are experiencing massive increases from their energy suppliers. Although the season is changing from winter to spring, the UK weather is still extremely unpredictable and cold, leaving many households having to decide whether they want their heating on and face the increased prices, or remain cold on the chilly evenings. Here at HSD, we want to help our customers to remain warm, without spending having to spend a fortune on their energy bills. Here are our best tips for saving money and how to keep you and your family warm and comfortable in these difficult times…

Invest in an Electric Blanket
Electric blankets are one of the cheapest yet most effective ways of keeping warm during cooler weather. Unlike expensive heaters, an electric blanket costs an average of 2-3p per hour to run, meaning it will cost 16-24p for you to sleep in a warm and toasty bed for the entire night. You can even turn on the blanket before going to bed to make sure that you're getting into an already warm bed if you’re struggling with the colder temperatures. This also means that you can turn the heating off altogether as the blanket will be keeping you warm enough for a fraction of the cost!
Our electric blankets benefit from a timer feature – perfect for those who don’t want to keep the blanket on all night, as you can pick and choose when you want the blanket to turn on and off to suit you. Our double, king and super king blankets also have dual controls so that if you’re sharing a bed with a partner, you can both control your side of the bed separately. This is ideal for couples who have different temperature preferences, especially with the season changing!

Switch off Lights and Electric Appliances
This may sound fairly obvious but you’d be surprised how often you’ll leave the light on or leave your devices left on standby. It’s been estimated that turning your electric devices (phone chargers, laptop chargers, TVs, radios, Alexa devices and more) can save you around £30 per year!
To help save money by turning off your light bulbs, switch to using candles and fairy lights on an evening whilst you’re watching TV instead. Not only will this save you money, but it will create a cosy and relaxing environment for you to unwind in!

Relax with a Heated Throw
Our heated throws also cost around 2-3p per hour to run and these can be used to snuggle under as you watch TV or read on the evenings. They’re super cosy, soft and comfortable and allow you to turn the heating off altogether! Relax on a night with our super-soft throws and then climb into an already heating bed with our electric blankets too! They’re sure to keep you really warm for a fraction of the cost your usual heating method would cost.

Turn Your Thermostat Down
It’s been estimated that by just turning your thermostat down by 1 degree, you can save yourself a whopping £80 per year! By turning your thermostat down slightly, you can save yourself money each time you put your heating on, whilst still keeping yourself warm. Alternatively, keep your heating off altogether and keep cosy under an electric blanket or throw during evenings where you’re relaxing!
